    The UK Border Agency has announced that from 1st March 2011 all applicants applying for UK Visas in New Zealand will have their applications processed by the UK Border Agency's Processing Hub in Manila, Philippines. This announcement sees the closure of the High Commission's visa processing centre in Canberra and is part of the UK Border Agency's rationalisation of operations to improve efficiency and consistency of decision making.

    In the interim all applicants should be aware of the following application process (source UK in New Zealand website):

    The UK Border Agency has stopped accepting Tier 1 (General) applications made overseas, from 00:01 on 23 December 2010. If you submitted an applications on or before 22 December 2010, they will be processed as normal. UKBA have confirmed they will  will not decide any more Tier 1 (General) applications made overseas until January 2011.

    Tier 1 (General) will not reopen for new applications overseas. If you have already obtained a Tier 1 (General) visa, your dependants can still apply.

    On 23rd November 2010 the UK Home Secretary annonced the closure of Tier 1 General from 1st April 2011. The UK Border Agency will still be accepting applications under this scheme until all places have been allocated under the cap, introduced by the UK Government on 19th July 2010.

    The global limit of 600 overseas applications per month has been reached for November 2010; the UK Border Agency will not issue any more visas for successful Tier 1 General applications made overseas until Monday 1 December 2010, when the allocation reopens.

    Immigration limit for Tier 1 (General) of the

    points-based system

    On 18th March 2010 the UK Border Agency announced significant changes to Tier 1 & Tier 2 effective from 06/04/2010. The changes now mean applicants with Bachelor Degrees can apply for Tier 1 General (Skilled Migrant), subject to their earnings being at the required level.  Top earners (over 150,000 GBP) can now enter under this scheme without scoring points for qualifications and applicants can now score points for age up to the age of 39.
